Sometimes people dont want to have to take the tablets that doctors perscribe..
Do you know of any Herbal medications or Natural remedies that may help with certain conditions?
*Please remember that its a good idea to talk to a doctor first before try any herbal or natural remedies, as some have side effects just like chemical drugs*
I know that St Johns Wort is meant to be a good substitute for antidepressant tablets as it helps lift depression..
St John's wort is generally well tolerated, but there are side effects to this natural medication.
The most common adverse effects reported are gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, confusion, tiredness and sedation.
St John's wort can on rare occassions cause photosensitivity.
This can lead to visual sensitivity to light and to sunburns in situations that would not normally cause them.
Related to this, recent studies concluded that the extract reacts with light, both visible and ultraviolet, to produce free radicals, molecules that can damage the cells of the body. These can react with vital proteins in the eye which, if damaged, precipitate out causing cataracts.
Also St Johns Wort can interfere with other medications you may be taking, such as the contraceptive pill, as well as other medications.
*This is why I highly recommend that people do talk about alternative medication such as St Johns Wort with their family Doctor (GP), at least.*
I have used St Johns Wort before but it didnt really seem to do much for me at the time.
My GP, has said that there is no reason why I couldnt go back on it again to see if it will be of any help this time.
So I will let you all know if I do try it again and if it works for me this time or not and also if I have any side effect..
